Slide #25

When we started the Cooking Odyssey we knew that we would be focusing on the Mediterranean diet, one that not only allows us to be health-conscious but also tastes great. While conceptualizing this show we realized that this specific diet is not only about what goes in our mouths but is also a way of life, one that goes hand-in-hand with eco-friendly living.

So the production team had this grand notion that being healthy shouldn’t only be connected to food, but also in how we make our food, what we use to make it and what our kitchen looks like. And so, to accomplish this great endeavor, to have an entirely green kitchen to use for the Cooking Odyssey, we set our green hearts and minds to it. Our first step was to find someone who would share our vision, and we found this in Effie Karambelas a kitchen designer from New York. She promised she would figure out the greenest way to not only build our kitchen, but also to stock it. We were impressed!

We teamed up with eco-friendly kitchen fixtures/surfaces appliance companies like Kohler, Eco by Cosentino and Capuano Appliances.

We knew we had to start from the bottom up on this project and the only thing we could all think of was countertops. Eco by Cosentino is a durable surface made of 75 percent recycled content composed of recycled material that is bound by an environmentally friendly resin made in part from broken glass broken ceramic and corn oil..

When it came to our sinks and faucets we knew we wanted something sleek, modern and beautiful but that would also help us save water and the planet. Kohler provided us with our eco-friendly sinks and faucets and they were exactly what we wanted in this appliance!

With help from A- direct cabinets we were able to combine our love for green products and our need for storage space. A-direct helped us team with Kemper, a company that is a member of the KCMA Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) and we were able to find the product we wanted.

For one of the most important appliances in any kitchen, we knew we needed something that would save energy and so we went to Capuano Appliances. The Wolf Rangetop and the SubZero Refrigerator in our environmentally friendly kitchen fits right in with their energy efficient ways. But one of our favorite appliances in our kitchen is the Induction Cooktop that cooks food in less time which is not only energy efficient but also gets us eating faster.

To put the whole kitchen together we turned to ZohoChris Creations, a company that specializes in renovating high-end green kitchens. After all of our hard work and with the help of our Designer andall of our partners and sponsors we were able to accomplish our goal of having an entirely green kitchen that we use for the Cooking Odyssey.
